Nasdak – Media24 – Cape Town
I was so excited when Simoné asked me to do the on-the-day wedding coordination for her wedding. She is a dear colleague, talented graphic designer and friend. They got married in Cape Town on the rooftop of the Media 24 building known – a venue better known as Nasdak. This venue was spectacular and truly something different, boasting a 360-degree view of the city. The black and white colour scheme that Simoné chose complemented the venue beautifully and, with all the guests dressed in black, it turned out to be an incredibly sophisticated urban affair.
For the two weeks leading up to the wedding the wind blew like crazy, but when the big day arrived there was nothing more than a light breeze – just enough to cool off the guests on the terrace where the ceremony took place. The ceremony did not have the traditional layout with rows of chairs – instead Nicola and the team from Goeters transformed the terrace into a stunning lounge area with white chairs, couches and tables of all shapes and sizes. This created a beautiful stylish area where the guests could relax and enjoy the ceremony.
The simplicity of the décor was gorgeous. Hundreds of candles were arranged down the centre of the tables, and each place setting featured gold cutlery, a serviette, a “thank you” macaroon and a photo of each guest as name card. The elegantly designed table numbers and white ghost chairs completed the picture. Large L & S letters (with bulbs) were placed at the back of the dance floor, adding another level of excitement to the celebrations. Mia Bella’s custom made white paper flowers adorned areas like the dance floor, cake corner and backdrop of the ceremony, and the 6 enormous standing paper flowers in the ceremony area were striking and extraordinary.
One of the moments that I will never forget was when Lehan and his groomsman arrived to set up the cheese and bread table for the pre-drinks. I thought they’d give me the goodies to pack out, but instead they got so into it that they did it all themselves – and they really did a great job, artfully arranging cheeses, berries and grapes and more! Simone’s mom made the wedding cake and it was a big bold statement piece – really WOW – and the main course was burgers and chips served by Jack Rabbit – yummy!
Another special moment was when Lehan stood up and started to serenade his bride with ‘Your Song’ from Elton John – their song from varsity days.
I worked closely with the wait-staff from Blank Canvas and they were exceptional at helping out and going that extra mile for guests.
