De Meye Wine Estate – Stellenbosch
I first met this lovely couple at a wedding that I coordinated back in March 2017 – the wedding of Benjamin and Laura, who happen to be the brother and sister of Paolo and Jess. What’s so unique about this story is that these two couples are the best of friends, and also siblings – Laura and Paulo are siblings, as are Jess and Benjamin!
Paolo and Jess have such a big passion for people and it was an incredible privilege to be asked to help with the set-up of their wedding. This was also the very first wedding where I was only required to assist with the set-up, and this sparked the idea for my new “set-up package” for brides.
It was a rather chilly day in March, but oh boy – what a stunning wedding! It was one big elegant affair with a touch of vintage. The ceremony took place on the gravel road between the trees and vineyards, and guests were comfortably seated on ghost chairs with armrests – these are definitely one of my favourite styles of wedding chair! The preacher’s lectern was a big wine barrel and the confetti was a mixture of rice and fresh lavender! The one thing that I will always remember is how the couple washed each other’s feet in the ceremony like Jesus did for his disciples (see John 13). This was such a profound humble act of service and touched your heart and view of marriage.
The reception took place under the trees, and Luke and Jessica from The Table restaurant and their team took charge of all the food. The tables were adorned with delicate white runners with different kinds of pots filled with olive branches and acacia. The plates were a mixture of old vintage plates with flowers and golden borders. There were lawn games, which the guests could enjoy in between nibbling from the amazing harvest table. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to help get everything ready for their special day!
